Donald Eugene McDougal, age 89, of Paola, Kansas, formerly of rural Lane, Kansas, died July 17, 2013 at North Point Skilled Nursing Home in Paola.

Donald was born September 10, 1923 at Osawatomie, Kansas. He was the third of five children born to C. A. “Lonnie” and A. Larra (McColly) McDougal. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1941.

Donald served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was aboard the first combat ship, the USS Southerland that weighed anchor in Tokyo Bay. His service time began April 17, 1943 and he was honorably discharged January 12, 1946.

Donald was united in marriage to Mary Frances Curtis on October 31, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri. They became the parents of two sons. They moved to their farm at rural Lane in November of 1947 and resided there for 65 years.

Donald was an electrician. He had worked for Fluor, Taylor Forge, BEHM, and the Osawatomie State Hospital.

Donald was a member of the Lane United Methodist Church and the Masons.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Joyce, Lewis, and Robert.

He is survived by his wife Mary of the home; his sister Betty (Stevens) Beets of Overland Park, Kansas; his sister-in-law Katie McDougal of rural Osawatomie; two sons and daughters-in-law Donald Jr. of Overland Park and Jolene McDougal of Paola and Lonnie and Kat McDougal of Arlington, Virginia; 3 grandchildren Gregg, Steven, Michae; 4 great grandchildren Austin, Mariah, and Joshua McDougal and Samantha Treece; 3 great-great grandchildren Bailey, Travis, and Austin Treece; many other relatives and friends.
