Lorene Pearl Cook, age 85, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Meadowbrook Rehabilitation Hospital in Gardner, Kansas.

Lorene was the daughter of Henry Ludolph and Hilda Claire (Murdock) Haase. She was born February 27, 1924 at Osawatomie, Kansas. She graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1941.

Lorene married to Edwin Earnest Cook on January 31, 1942 at Osawatomie, Kansas. They became the parents of three children.

Lorene and her husband owned and operated The Young Society which was a children's clothing store in Osawatomie from the mid '70s through the mid '80s. Lorene later worked at Moon's IGA as their greeting card stocker.

Lorene was a member of the First Christian Church in Osawatomie.

Lorene was preceded in death by her husband Edwin who died October 17, 2008; her daughter Marilyn Winegar, her grandson Mike Anderson, her brother Henry Haase, Jr., and her sister Dorothy Haase.

Lorene is survived by her son Charles and his wife Mary of Gardner; her daughter JoAnn and her husband Jim Newell of Olathe; her brother Charles Haase of Sun City, Arizona; her son-in-law Steve Winegar of Osawatomie; her brother-in-law Claron and his wife Jean Cook of Osawatomie; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie with visitation an hour before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Cook, Brandon Egner, Mark Farmer, Matt Hays, Gary Troutman, and Brian Troutman. Memorials are to the Marilyn Winegar Memorial Scholarship Fund.
