ROY CORBETT FURY

AUGUST 20, 1923 - APRIL 7, 2008

Roy Corbett Fury, 84, retiree of Phillips Petroleum Company, died at 1:30 a.m. on Monday in Bartlesville.

Funeral services for Mr. Fury will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Sanctuary of the Oak Park United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Stewart will be the officiant. Committal prayers and interment will be directed in the Memorial Park Cemetery by The Arnold Moore Funeral Service.

Mr. Fury will lie in state in the Drawing Rooms of The Arnold Moore Funeral Residence where friends may call for their visitation until he is removed to the church for services and final rites on Thursday.

Roy Corbett Fury was born on August 20, 1923 in Paola, KS. He was the son of the late Corbett Jess and Emma Jane (Sanders) Fury. He was reared and received his education in Kansas and was graduated with the Senior Class of 1941 from the Osawatomie High School. He continued his education at the Independence Junior College for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp. in 1942, during World War II, at Wichita, KS. He received his honorable discharge in 1944 in Chicago, IL.

Roy attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa prior to coming to Bartlesville to work for Phillips Petroleum Company. He and the former Vivian Maxine Koehn were married in Wichita, KS on June 15, 1952 and they made their home in the Bartlesville/Dewey area. Roy retired from Phillips Petroleum Company as a Research Technician in 1985 following thirty-four years of service. Vivian and Roy continued living in Bartlesville during their retirement.

Roy was a member of the Oak Park United Methodist Church. Throughout his life, Roy enjoyed many aspects of aeronautics, including being a flight trainer, as well as building free flight model airplanes. He was also an avid model railroader.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian, of fifty-five years, of the home; one son, Ronald Fury, Stillwater, OK; two daughters, Valerie Jones, Tahlequah, OK, and Reva Pratt, Bartlesville, OK; two grandsons, Justin Jones and Damion Jones; one granddaughter, Deanna Fury; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father; mother; and one sister, Mrs. Hazel Reed.
