ALLEN CORTNER

CLASS OF 1941

Allan B. Cortner, 72, a former Paola resident, died Saturday, December 9, 1995, at his home in Topeka.

He was born in Osawatomie on October 23, 1923, the son of James B. and Marie Stansburg Cortner. He was a lifelong area resident until moving to Topeka.

He was married to Alice Lykins on January 1,1944, at Fort Jackson S.C. She died in 1994.

Mr. Cortner worked 32 years for the Kansas Department of Transportation in the engineering and construction division.

At the time of his death, he was employed as a project manager for Finney & Turnipseed Consulting Engineers in Topeka.

He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was past president of the Kansas City Collie Club. His life–long interest was raising show dogs.

He retired from the United States Army Reserve as a chief warrant officer in 1983.

Surviving are three sisters, Carolyn Linnemeyer of Grand Junction, Colorado, Kathleen Perry of Overland Park and Sue E. Cortner of Fresno, California,; and nieces and nephews.

A visitation was from 10-11a.m today (Wednsday) at the Wilson and Son Chapel in Paola. Services followed at 11a.m., with Rev. Doyle Carroll, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Paola, as the officiant. Virginia Karr was the organist.

Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Military Personnel. Honorary Pallbearers were Warren Sick, John Breckenridge, Craig Lindblom and Robert Thorne.

Memorials may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
