OSCAR JACK CAVINEE

O. E. "Jack" Cavinee, age 84, of rural Fontana, Kansas, died Thursday, December 6, 2007 at his home.

Jack was born May 30, 1923 near Beagle, Kansas. He was the fifth of eight children born to Harry O. and Glendora (Bryan) Cavinee. He graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1941.

Jack served his country with the United States Army during World War II in the China-Burma Theatre.

He was united in marriage to Virginia L. Cornelius on October 12, 1946 at Topeka, Kansas. They lived in Oregon for a year and then moved to Paola. They became the parents of two daughters. Their current residence in rural Miami County has been their home for the past 58 years.

Jack worked at Taylor Forge in Paola. He retired in 1985. He also raised Angus and Dexter cattle. He and Virginia spent two to three days a week working at the Old Country Store flea market in Osawatomie for the past 20 years.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, watching sports, gardening and refinishing furniture.

He was a member of the Beagle United Methodist Church and was also a member of the American Legion in Fontana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Burton and Harry, and two sisters Maureen Beal and Wanda Cole.

He is survived by his wife Virginia of the home; two daughters Cornelia Ann Jeffery and her husband Dennis of Topeka and Gail Doering and her husband Dave of La Fayette, California; one brother E. J. Cavinee of Burbank, California; two sisters Ruth Burnett of Longmont, California and Pat Smith of Green Valley, Arizona; two granddaughters and one step-grandson; other relatives and friends.

Cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Memorials are to the Beagle United Methodist Church or the Osawatomie High School Scholarship Fund.
