Lorene Alice Hydorn, age 89 of Osawatomie, Kansas died Lorene Alice Hydorn, age 89 of Osawatomie, Kansas died Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Lorene was born May 1, 1922 in Osawatomie, Ks. She was the oldest of three children of Roy William and Nora Ethel (Brannan) Baker.

She attended the Osawatomie schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School in the Class of 1941.

A life-long resident of Osawatomie, Lorene married Cecil Conrad Shepherd in 1944. They became the parents of one daughter. Mr. Shepherd died September 1960. Lorene was married to Willis Laverne Hydorn in November 1961. Mr. Hydorn died in November 1995.

Lorene worked as a waitress at Marshall Restaurant and Pure Gold Dairy. She served as the activity director at Pinecrest Nursing Home, Paola, for 15 years. She also worked at Meeks Drugstore, Osawatomie, for 14 years.

Lorene belonged to Victory Baptist Church, was a member of the Missouri Pacific Women’s Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hanlin-Kelley Post #2258 of the VFW of Osawatomie and enjoyed the Wednesday Card Club. She was a charter member and one of the founders of the Osawatomie Historical Society. She held several offices within the organization. She was instrumental in setting up the Osawatomie Museum Foundation and acted as curator for many years. As a member of the board of directors, she held offices of President and Vice President.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Betty Jo (Shepherd) Bell; one brother, Roy Junior Baker; one sister, Vera Mae Baker, who died at age of 3 years.

She is survived by three nieces, Mary Schleicher of Pomona, Kansas, Donna Nicholson of Birmingham, Alabama and Marjorie White of Phoenix, Arizona; one nephew, John Baker of Nashville, Tennessee; three step daughters, Daisy Mordt of Troy, Mo., Daline Dudley of Connecticut, Eulalah Henricks of Ottawa, Ks; one step son, Melvin Dudley of Oklahoma; and several step-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be 2pm, Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Victory Baptist Church in Osawatomie. Visitation will be just before the service from 1-2pm at the church. Burial will be in the Garnett Cemetery, Garnett, Ks. Memorials are to the Victory Baptist Church.
