HAROLD YOUNG

 CLASS OF 1940

APRIL 8, 1922 - APRIL 29, 2014

Harold Lloyd Young age 92, of Leawood, KS formerly of Paola, Osawatomie, Garnett and Chanute, KS died Tuesday, April 29 at his son's home in Aurora, Colorado.

Harold was born April 8, 1922 in Kansas City, MO the eldest of five boys of Leroy and Grace (Bottrell) Young.

Harold attended school in Osawatomie, KS and graduated from Osawatomie High School with the class of 1940.

In 1942 Harold entered the US Army. Harold was one of the men that landed on Omaha Beach on June 12, 1944 only six days after the initial storming of Omaha Beach, Normandy on June 6, 1944. He served in Northern France and several other areas of Europe until Nov 1945.

On November 19, 1945, he married Evelyn Stockwell in Paola, KS. They moved to Lawrence, KS and then in 1946 they moved to Osawatomie, KS and they became the parents of three children. Harold and Evelyn were married for almost sixty-eight years when Evelyn died on July 7, 2013.

Harold worked for Peck Wolken Chevrolet in Osawatomie. The family moved to Garnett in 1960 where Harold worked for Whitley Chevrolet and then owned the Sears Catalog Store. Harold and Evelyn moved to Chanute in 1968. Harold once again worked for Whitley Chevrolet. Then in September of 1995 they moved back to Paola and then to Leawood in 2003. Harold spent his final three months living with his son Herb and family in Aurora CO.

Harold was a member of the Valley View United Methodist Church of Overland Park, KS, a former Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E (Elks) Chanute lodge #806, he was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Harold loved spending time with his family. After retiring he and Evelyn traveled extensively. He was an avid reader and kept his mind active solving Sudoku puzzles.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn, one infant daughter Sue Ellen Young, and four brothers.

He is survived by his son Herbert Lee (wife Kay Lynne) Young of Aurora, Colo., daughter Kay Elaine Everitt of Overland Park, KS. Three grandchildren: Heath Landon Young, Kimberly Lynne Young and Megan Noelle (husband Samuel Duane) Clevenger and many other relatives and friends.

Cremation.
