WAYNE LINDEMOOD

Wayne Erwin Lindemood, 90, died on August 4, 2011, at Medicalodge, Leavenworth, Kan.

Wayne was born on May 5, 1921, to John B. Lindemood and Ruth (Campbell) Lindemood. Wayne attend schools in Kansas City, Kan,Ironton, Ohio, and Osawatomie, Kan., graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1940.

Wayne was employed in his parents' furniture store before WWII. Following WWII, he worked again in the furniture store; then in grocery and shoe stores. Eventually, Wayne became a U.S. Civil Service employee, serving in more than one agency, and retiring from U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Wayne was drafted into the United States Army in June, 1942 and discharged in October, 1945. While in the military he served in the Quartermaster Corps in Alaska, his longest assignment.

While residing in Leavenworth, his last place of residence, Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church, where at various times he served as either Assistant Chief Usher or Chief Usher.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John who was born three years before Wayne, but who died in infancy.

Wayne is survived by cousins, Linda (Jim) Osborne, Lake Tapawingo, Mo., L.J. Hipple, Gravois Mills, Mo., Alice Mills, Brookville, Ky., and Ret. Col. John E. Endicott, South Korea.

Wayne made the decision to help others by donating his body to science research. As such, a memorial service will be held in his honor at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Calvary Baptist Church in Leavenworth. A private burial will follow so that he may finally lay at peace next to his beloved parents in Osawatomie. In lieu of flowers, it is recommended that memorial contributions be made in a way that honors Wayne.
