Charles Richard (Dick) Lanphere, Sr., 86, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at Crestview Nursing Home and Rehab., in Brownsville, TN.

He was born in Osawatomie, Kansas on September 1, 1922.

Mr. Lanphere graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1940 and was a graduate of Kansas State University and completed graduate studies at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He was a WW II Army veteran. Mr. Lanphere was employed by the U.S. Geological Survey in Tuscaloosa, AL and was also employed as a hydrogeologist at the U.S. Geological Survey and at Layne-Central and retired from the Water Resources Division of the State of Tennessee in 1989.

He was a member of Highland Heights Presbyterian Church and the Ground Water Resources of Tennessee. He married Joan Walker in 1946.

Mr. Lanphere is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan W. Lanphere; daughter Becky Sadowski of Brownsville; two sons, Ricky Lanphere of Orlando, FL, Larry Lanphere of Bartlett; grandchildren Brian Sadowski, Lauren Shearon, Charles Lanphere, Dusti Yarbrough and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., Monday, November 24 at Forest Hill Funeral Home East with services to follow at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery East.
