MAXINE L. BUMGARNER SAMPSON

CLASS OF 1940

JUNE 22, 1922 - SEPTEMBER 12, 2000

Maxine L. Sampson, 78, Topeka, a former Osawatomie resident, died September 12, 2000 in a Topeka nursing home.

She was born June 22, 1922 in Council Grove, the daughter of Ethel Rose Seese Bumgarner and William Bumgarner, Jr. She spent most of her youth in Council Grove before the family moved to Osawatomie. She attended Osawatomie High School and graduated with the Class of 1940.

She and Dewey Sampson were married April 25, 1941, in Terre Haute, IN. He died October 12, 1981.

Mrs. Sampson had lived in Topeka since the mid 1950s. She was a homemaker before going to work for the Jones Store in Topeka 12 years ago. She retired last month.

Others preceding her in death were a son, Dennis J. Sampson, who died in 1960, and a daughter, Susan K. Sampson, who died in 1953.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Dewey Sampson of Sacramento, CA, and Robert Wayne Sampson of Topeka; three daughters, Dorothy Kester of Hoyt, Sharon K. Frank of Mulvane and Pamela Hare of Ozawkie; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Inurnment services were held in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Arrangements were cared for by Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka. Memorials were to the Heart of America Hospice.
