For weeks in advance, the excitement had mounted; and finally on Friday, April 26, the results of the efforts, expended by the Juniors in making this Junior-Senior Prom one of the best ever, became known to all. The evening began at six with the traditional banquet in the high school gym. In the welcome address, the Hawaiian "Aloha" was used to express the "welcome" and the "farewell" of the Junior Class to the Senior Class, with the added wish that the Seniors would return once again. The two hour respite between the conclusion of the banquet at seven and the start of the dance in the city auditorium at nine, was spent in preparation for a wonderful evening of dancing to the superb music of the Opus 5. The dance ended at midnight -- all too soon for many -- and another change of attire was made by several people before the science fiction movie, "Lost World", started at one o'clock. when the movie ended at three, everyone endured the rain to go to the basement of the Elks Lodge. There a breakfast of ham and waffles was fed to the tired but hungry group of all night revelers by the members of B.P.O.E. No. 921 and the Lions Club. This highlight of the
school social season ended officially at four o'clock,
Saturday morning, but the memories of this Prom will live
forever. |
