1958 OHS YEARBOOK

~ Departments ~

O.H.S. students familiarize themselves with the location of the continents. American History is required of all Juniors, and American Government is required of the Seniors. Psychology is also offered.

Students diagram and look for correct answers to research questions in their English Literature classes. They receive a good foundation in our English Department. This subject helps students to learn to express themselves through both written and oral work.

These students are explaining Geometry problems to each other. Many students shy away from Math because they feel it is too difficult and impractical. However, the students of O.H.S. feel that this subject is practical and is daily becoming more useful.

The Stenographic Department has a pleasantly busy air. Seniors leaving this department find interesting and good-paying positions.

The Bookkeeping students study practical business methods. Commercial Law is offered as an elective.

Laboratory sessions make Science interesting. These students are performing an experiment in distillation water processes in their Physics class. Our school is very privileged to have modern laboratory equipment. The other courses offered are Biology and General Science.

Health and Physical Education are required for all Freshman girls. Here a group of girls enjoy building a phramid which is part of the tumbling unit offered in the program.

One unit of Health is required of all Freshmen. It is taught in connection with the Physical Education classes.

O.H.S. students practice their Spanish on the board.

Card games and drills in Latin help perfect one's English grammar and vocabulary, while study of gods and goddesses and early Roman culture broaden one's general knowledge.

Any girl (or boy) can register for a class in Foods and learn to cook and bake like a chef. With fine equipment and a good teacher these boys are the envy of all the other boys who didn't enroll in Cooking.

Here is a shop where ideas are turned into concrete (wood) form every day. In the Drafting Class, boys learn about working drawings – how to make and read them.

What boy or girl wouldn't like to learn to drive, especially when the car is a 1958 Ford? Many devices such as depth perception and visual acuity help students become safe drivers through the course in Driver Education.
