Thanksgiving Day
saw the close of a most successful football season for
O.H.S. with a victory over our old rival Paola by a score of
12-6. The schedule for
the season included games with the following high schools;
Louisburg, Garnett, Wellsville, Pleasanton, Argentine,
Shawnee-Mission, Paola, and the O.H.S. Alumni. Early in the season
Coach Steele gathered about him a group of almost new
football material and began practice that would make a star
out of a football dummy. Earl Barrett, a
second year man, was elected captain. He showed great
ability in developing the team. At the close of the
season letters were given to the following: Mordy Flint,
Fred Zakoura, Percy Edwards, Layton Gray, Henry Winchel,
Alfred Miller, Henderson Cortner, Walter Osmon, Loren Evans,
Roy Cundiff, Leslie Kellogg, Wayne Kerr, Earl Barrett,
Sewell Whitney, William Mattingly, and Harry
Layne. Each year a game is
played with Paola on Thanksgiving Day. Each student looks
forward to this battle and much pep and enthusiasm is
displayed by the student body. This season the squad motored
over there and out-played them on their home field and
defeated them by a good margin. This game will long be
remembered by football fans. Nothing could thrill the
student body more than to see the old rival
defeated. LEFT TO RIGHT,
