Dr. Bellows, a widower physician who has invented a steam-bath happens to run across a package of old love letters from his sweetheart of youth, now a widow, Mrs. Tobin, who has a son, Georgie. On the day set for mrs. Tobin's coming the Doctor arranges for a visit from Algernon clawhammer, the nephew of his old college friend, Simeon Singleton, with the expectation of making a match with his daughter, Florence. Mrs. MacEckron and her daughter, Dolly, happen to come to Dr. Bellows for a visit on the day of the wedding. Mrs. MacEckron is a very close friend of Dr. Bellows. Upon the arrival of the new butler, Augustus May, he is mistaken for the intended son-in-law, Clawhammer, and is treated royally. Whereas on the arrival of clawhammer a little later he is mistaken for the butler and treated as one. Mrs. Tobin arrives and instead of the gentle sweet thing of twenty-five years ago, she proves to be a large robust woman, inclined to run everything, even her husbands. Mr. Singleton, Dr. Bellow's old college friend comes in time for the wedding. Everything is in a turmoil, because of the mistaken identities. Mrs. Tobin finally decides she wants Singleton and marries him against his will. Dr. Bellows takes Mrs. MacEckron as his wife. Florence and Algernon, Augustus and Maggie Brady, the maid, Dolly and Georgie also enter the bonds on holy wedlock. Dr.
