The home of Vicar Lional Toop, an aspiring young clergyman, was turned topsy-turvy by a meddling old maid, the arrival of a fun-loving actor friend of Mrs. Toop and of a timid reverend taking Mr. Toop's place for the Sunday service. Then to make the household even more confusing, Mrs. Toop's uncle, the Bishop of Lax, arrived on the scene and was petrified by a half-wit maid. Adding more color and confusion, an escaped communist spy came into the house disguised as a vicar. After much questioning from a sergeant, the spy turned cowardly, and peace was once again restored.
