FOOTBALL
On November 9, 1962, the Trojans
defeated the Panthers by a score of 26-7 to keep the Tom-Tom
for O.H.S. another year. Since 1939, the winner of the
Osawatomie-Paola game has had the honor of keeping the
traditional Tom-Tom. Osawatomie has held this honor for
twelve years and Paola for twelve years, but Osawatomie has
established a first by keeping the Tom-Tom for five
consecutive years. The Tom-Tom hangs on display at
the main entrance of Osawatomie High School to remind the
students of the great victories achieved through the past
years. The Trojans started
the 1962 football season with a victory over Gardner. The
Belton, Harrisonville, and Immaculata games brought defeat
to the Trojans. Then for the first time since 1955, the
Trojans defeated the Bonner Braves by a score of 13-6. The
Trojan's offense and defense were exceptional. Suffering two
more defeats from DeSoto and Burlington, the Trojans were
the underdogs going in the annual Osawatomie-Paola game. The
Trojans scored first early in the first quarter, but failed
to complete the extra point. The Panthers then scored late
in the quarter and completed the extra point. The second
quarter opened but saw little action until the remaining
seconds of the game when the Trojans scored twice in less
than one minute. At half time, the Trojans again scored and
completed the extra point to make the final score 26-7. This
made the fifth year in a row that the Trojans have defeated
the Panthers and kept the Tom-Tom. FRONT ROW: L. Linsey, J. Kirk, E. Thompson, B. Graves,
