SEPTEMBER 16, 1941 - MAY 12, 2016
Priscilla Ann Slawson, 74, formerly of
Paola, Kan., passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016, in Spring
Hill, Kan. She was born Sept. 16, 1941, in Kansas
City, Mo. She was the only child of Lester C. Allen and
Clara Womboldt Allen. She grew up in Kansas City, Mo., and
Roeland Park, Kan. She graduated from Shawnee Mission
High School in 1959. She attended Emporia State University
where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Social Sorority. She
obtained a B.A. degree in Business Education in 1963.
Priscilla was a consummate people
person. She had the gift of engaging those of every age and
every circumstance. With a genuine interest and quick wit,
she could established an immediate rapport which in many
cases was ongoing. Her home was the site of perpetual social
activity and entertaining. Friends and relatives benefited
as well her children, grandchildren and their friends.
She was an excellent cook and derived
great satisfaction from creating an environment for others
to have a good time. She had an unfailing sense of humor and
loved stories and jokes. Her areas of interest and enjoyment
were many. She loved the birds and wildlife around her home.
She planted flowers and was an excellent still life painter.
She enjoyed reading and playing bridge. All types of
traveling and watching a sunset on the Florida Gulf Coast
were among her favorite activities. She was passionate about
following her children's and grandchildren's athletics and
sporting events. Priscilla taught business classes in
high school for 36 years. The list of schools include
Caldwell, Reading, Shawnee Mission, Kansas City and
Louisburg. Most notable though are her 27 years at
Osawatomie, Kan. The classes were entitled things like
business principles and accounting. The true lessons
however, were self-esteem, self- confidence and positive
self- image. Sometimes expectations were high but always
tempered by humor and concern. Priscilla is survived by Douglas,
husband of 52 years; son, Mark Slawson (Beth) of Paola;
daughter, Ann Williams (Joe) of Shawnee, Kan; granddaughter,
Kelsey Slawson; and grandson, Alexander Slawson of
Paola. There will be a private family service
with burial next to her parents at Chapel Hill Cemetery in
Kansas City, Kan. All are invited to celebrate Priscilla's
legacy at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 21, at the Paola Country
Club, 29651 Old Kansas City Road, Paola, KS 66071. Memorial
contributions in memory of Priscilla may be made to the
Osawatomie High School Student Council Scholarship, 1200
