  OBITUARY:

SEPTEMBER 30, 1915 - FEBRUARY 18, 2006

John R. Shaw, 90, Pittsburg, longtime Osawatomie resident and educator and a native of Blue Mound, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.

Mr. Shaw served as principal of Osawatomie High School from 1954 until 1974. He then served as a mathematics instructor for six years before retiring.

The son of Charles R. and Olive Jackson Shaw, he was born Sept. 30, 1915, near Blue Mound. He and Arlene Crammer were married Aug. 27, 1937. They moved to Pittsburg from Osawatomie in 1997.

After graduating from Pittsburg State University, he went on to receive his master's degree in Greeley, Colo.

Mr. Shaw was a member of the First Christian Church in Pittsburg where he was an elder. He was also a member of the Pittsburg Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow; the Retired Teacher's Association; and John Hinkle Post No. 204 of the American Legion in Osawatomie.

While living in Osawatomie he was very active in the First Christian Church, Osawatomie Rotary Club and many other civic organizations.

Those preceding him in death were a brother, Ora Shaw, and a granddaughter, Lisa Shaw.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Shaw of the home; two sons, C. Kournies Shaw of Slidell, La., and Dale R. Shaw of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter, Rita Hudson of Pittsburg; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were Monday in Pleasant View Cemetery in Blue Mound.
