Obituary:
Birth: Jul. 10, 1958, Dayton,
Montgomery County, Ohio, USA Death: Jan. 18, 2011,Osawatomie,
Miami County, Kansas, USA Cynthia "Cindy" Lynn Schwarz, age 52,
of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at
Miami County Medical Center in Paola, Kansas. Cindy was born July 10, 1958 at
Dayton, Ohio. She was the older of two daughters of Fred J.
and Donna (Winter) Schwarz. She graduated from Spencer, Iowa
High School with the Class of 1976 where she participated in
choir and intramural sports. Volleyball was her favorite
high school sport. After high school, she attended Wayne
State College in Wayne, Nebraska and graduated from there in
1981 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in education.
She taught art for kindergarten
through 12th grades at Holbrook, Nebraska. She received her
gifted endorsement in 1991 from the University of Nebraska.
She began working for the East Central Kansas Special
Education Cooperative and was given a position at the
Osawatomie, Kansas USD #367 schools on August 17, 1992. She
taught in the Osawatomie special education and gifted
classrooms at Trojan Elementary, the Middle School and the
High School. Cindy's favorite pastime was reading.
A trip to the bookstore was a highlight for her. She also
had a great love for art and music. As a younger child Cindy
enjoyed vacations with her family to the great lakes of
Iowa. Since teaching in Kansas, she would travel back home
to Iowa and California to see her family as much as she
could during spring, summer, and winter breaks as well as
holidays. She taught swim lessons at the YMCA and the city
pool in Osawatomie. Cindy participated as a chaperone for a
few of the Osawatomie High School junior trips to Washington
DC and New York. She also helped transport students to
Kansas City to earn money at various fund raisers for their
junior trip. She was a member of the Trinity
Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa where she took part in the
church choir during her high school years. She was also a
member of the Kansas National Education Association. She
received the Outstanding Teacher Award one year from the
University of Kansas being nominated by honor students. She
had also received Kansas Teacher of the Year Award for the
2007/2008 school year in Osawatomie. Cindy had a passion for
teaching and loved her students. She was preceded in death by her
father who died December 23, 2002 and her sister Alisa
Schwarz White who died January 15, 2001. She is survived by her mother, Donna
Schwarz of Spencer, Ia.; her niece, Erin White and her
parents, Matt and Ann White of California; also two aunts:
Frieda Craig of Sloan, Ia. and Marjorie (McIntyre) of
Calif.; and many cousins, relatives and friends. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m.,
Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Presbyterian Church in
Osawatomie, Kansas. A second memorial service was held
Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in
Spencer, Iowa. Memorials are to the Cindy Schwarz
Scholarship Fund to be awarded to an Osawatomie High School
graduate.
