Michael Packard

BME EMPORIA STATE

DIRECTOR OF BANDS

SINCE 1998

Mr. Michael Packard graduated from OHS in 1981. After attending Emporia State University, he went on to be the Band and Choir director for the Altoona-Midway USD 387 school district. After his tenure there, he returned to the halls of OHS in 1999 and is currently serving as Director of Bands. The OHS Bands under Mr. Packard's have performed for two Kansas Governors, as well as playing for various community and regional activities. One of the highlights has been Mr. P's creation of the Jazz Techniques class at the High School. This group has become the premiere performance band in the area with successful tours made to New Orleans (just a few months after Hurricane Katrina) and the Memphis/Nashville areas! As their popularity grows sometimes requests for performances have to be culled!

Mr. Packard is married to Julie "Jordan" Packard, also OHS class of '81, and they have 3 children-all who are presently in college…….(so send money)! Mr. P loves to hunt and fish and spends any spare time training and enjoying his dog.
