DECEMBER 13, 1918 - APRIL 18, 2012

Lyle L. McVay, 93, died April 18, 2012 at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg, Kansas.

He was born December 13, 1918 in Canton, Kansas, the son of Alvah Lindley "Len" and Mattie (Reed) McVay. Lyle graduated from Canton High School and earned a Music Education degree from Kansas State Teachers College at Emporia.

He was a music teacher and later a text book salesman.

Lyle served in the U.S. Army. A World War II Veteran he served in the European Theater and participated in the D-Day invasion. He had lived in Canton, Concordia, Osawatomie, and Greensburg since 1964.

He was a member of the Kansas and National Music Educators Assn., the First United Methodist Church, a sixty plus year member of the American Legion, the Cannonball Golf club and Rotary Internanional, all of Greensburg.

On January 23, 1948, Lyle married Joanne Lewis in Emporia. She preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter Cheryl McVay, Kansas City, Missouri, three sons Dee and wife Nancy McVay, Overland Park, Kansas, Dr. Kent and wife Lori, Huntley, Montana, and Brian and wife Barbara, Burdett, Kansas, six Grandchildren and four Great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a sister Millie Rufener.

Funeral Services and Celebration of Lyle's life was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg, with Pastor Scott Rose officiating. A visitation was held on Sunday at the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, and the American Legion, in Care of Fleener Funeral Home, 514 S. Main, Greensburg, Kansas, 67054.
