OBITUARY

DECEMBER 19, 1906 - OCTOBER 31, 1978 

OSAWATOMIE - Final rites for Lela Alice Clerico, 71, of 1114 Main St., were held Friday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mrs. Clerico, who taught home economics in the Osawatomie school system for 28 years, died Oct. 31 in the Olathe Community Hospital.

She was born Dec. 19, 1906 in Toronto and her parents were William and Sallie Gray Smith. She grew up in Peabody and attended the local schools. She received her bachelor of science in home economics and her master of science in biology from Pittsburg State University. She then began a career in teaching which totaled 40 years.

On Sept. 9, 1939, she married Joe Clerico and they were parents of a son and a daughter.

Mrs. Clerico was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club; Missouri Pacific Women's Club; Delta Kappa Gamma; and a life member of the national, state and local National Education Association.

Following her retirement in 1972, she served as director of the Community Senior Service Center, Inc.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, two brothers and a sister.

Survivors include her husband, Joe, of the home; her son, Joe Clerico, Framingham, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Jean Rookhuyzen, Liberal; and three sisters, Mrs. Lula Bear, Harper, Mrs. Nannie Riemer and Mrs. Mary Bear, Wichita.

The Rev. P. Eugene Riley officiated at the rites. Music was provided by Mrs. Charles Heckart and Mrs. Glenn Ricketts, accompanied by Mrs. John Dollar, organist. Pallbearers were John Shaw, Ernest Swenson, Charles Heckart, Dick Nofsinger, M. J. Lhuillier and John Cole. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.
