OBITUARY

Ralph L. Barclay, 75, of Chanute passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Neosho Regional Memorial Medical Center in Chanute.

Ralph was born in Tulsa, OK on November 29, 1937, the son of William Roy and Eddie (Waller) Barclay. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1956 and later received his Masters of Education from Pittsburg State University. He married Mary Kay Jenkins on December 31, 1958 in Miami, OK.

He was a teacher and assistant football coach in Osawatomie High School. His “Glory Moment” was being Lynn Dickey’s freshman football coach. Dickey played for Kansas State University and later in the NFL with the Houston Oilers and Green Bay Packers.

In 1965 he and his family moved to Chanute where he became an instructor and track coach at Neosho County Junior College until his retirement in 1999. After his retirement Ralph became very active in Scottish Festivals around the country. He was a member of the Clan Barclay International and Retired Old Farts. He enjoyed spending time at Subway drinking coffee with friends, visiting with former classmates and students on Facebook, and motorcycle trips with his son-in-law across the United States. Above all, he loved spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by wife, Mary Kay, of the home; three children, Cindy and Larry Powell of Sedan, KS, Ed and DeDe Barclay of Billings, MT, and Corina and Bill Cox of Chanute, KS; one daughter-in-law, Kelly Barclay of Middlefield, OH; nine grandchildren, Brett, Blake, Sam, and Paula Powell all of Sedan, KS, Jessica and Austin Barclay of Middlefield, OH, Dakota Barclay of Billings, MT, and Jenni and Jarrod Cox of Chanute, KS; one great-grandson, Bennett Martin of Chanute, KS; one brother, Bob and Norma Barclay of Iola, KS; one sister, Barbara and Bruce Cunningham of Edmond, OK; and one brother-in-law, Walt Staats of Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ann Staats.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Chanute.The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.

Memorials in his name may be made to Cast-A-Ways or The American Cancer Society and may be left with the funeral home.
