Renea Margaret Crumpley, 48, Osawatomie, died Sunday, May 15, 2005, at her home after an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 20, 1956, in Independence, Kan., and was the second of the five children of Robert Hudson and Helyn Ann Kieffer Crumpley. The family moved to Osawatomie in 1958, and she attended St. Philip Neri Catholic School in Osawatomie and Holy Trinity Catholic School in Paola. She later transferred to Osawatomie public schools and was a 1975 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

She worked in the dietary department at Osawatomie State Hospital and then at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Osawatomie. She worked for 13 years in admissions and medical records at Miami County Medical Center in Paola before going back to work for the past four years at the state hospital, where she started as an aide. While working as a licensed practical nurse, she completed work for her registered nursing degree and continued working at the state hospital.

After taking several courses through Fort Scott Community College, she graduated from Mary Grimes School of Nursing at Neosho County Community College. She received her registered nursing degree in 2003.

Ms. Crumpley was a creative seamstress, a published poet, a writer of pen pal letters, an avid jogger and a huge Star Trek fan. She enjoyed family gatherings, including Kansas City Chiefs and Super Bowl Sundays. As a grandmother, she cherished every moment with her grandchildren and was known for her smiles and laughter.

Her mother preceded her in death.

Survivors include two daughters, LynnAnn Marie Holmquest of Yates Center, Kan., and Deana Renea Mock of Osawatomie; her father, Robert H. Crumpley of Paola; a brother, Robert N. Crumpley of Paola; three sisters, Rhonda Singer, Rochelle Folks and Rae Ann Roberts, all of Osawatomie; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Osawatomie. Viewing will be after 1 p.m. Thursday at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie, where a visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The rosary will begin at 6 p.m. Burial will be in Osawatomie Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University.
