Roy Don West age 75 of Kansas City, MO died Sunday September 8, 2019 at River
Bend Nursing home in Kansas City, KS. Roy was born October 19, 1943 in Osawatomie, KS. He was the youngest of five children born to Charlie William & Oretta (Joiner) West. He grew up in Osawatomie graduating with the Osawatomie High School Class of 1961.
On December 29, 1961, Roy enlisted into the United States Navy. He was stationed on the USS Shangri LA in Pennsylvania where he traveled throughout the world. Then after four years, Roy was honorably discharged. He went to work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a brakeman.
Roy also worked for other odds and end jobs. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time. Growing up he was a member of the Brown Chapel AME Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his siblings James R. Blackburn, Oak Harbor, Wash., Wanda J. Wilhoite, Winslow, Arizona, Edward C. West and Anna Belle West, Kansas City, Mo, eight children and numerous grandchildren along with other family and friends.
The family wishes to express extreme gratitude to the caregivers at River Bend, Kansas University Health Center and Crossroads Hospice for the understanding care they administered to Roy in his final days.
