VOLNEY HERBERT 'MICKEY' RHODES

Volney Herbert (Mickey) Rhodes, 19, seaman apprentice in the U. S. Coast Guard,formerly of Osawatomie, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pa. Death resulted from a head injury suffered in a collision.

The son of Herbert W. and Mary Agnes Rhodes, Mickey was born May 18, 1941at Garnett. He attended the Osawatomie grade school and gradated from Osawatomie High School in May 1959. He entered the Coast Guard June 8, 1959 and had been stationed at Cape May, N. J.

His mother died May 26, 1951 and he is survived by his father and step-mother of Osawatomie and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Volney Motley of Lawrence, and Mr. And Mrs. Sam Rhodes of Osawatomie.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Osawatomie Baptist church with Rev. Robert Wheatley officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery at Lawrence. The service was conducted under the direction of the Eddy Funeral Home of Osawatomie.
