Services for Sonja Lee McQuay, 801 Yuma, Independence, Mo., were held Friday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Mrs. McQuay died Jan 1 in Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She was 43.

She was born April 5, 1941, in Herington, the daughter of Hilding N. and Ellen May Kackley Jacobson. In 1953 the family moved to Osawatomie and she attended Osawatomie schools, graduating from Osawatomie High School in 1959.

She married Wilbern McQuay July 15, 1959, in Ottawa. They were parents of one daughter. In 1964 they moved to Independence to make their home.

Mrs. McQuay was a member of the Susquehanna Baptist Church of Independence.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbern, of the home; her daughter, Rhonda Stone, Lee's Summit, Mo; her mother, Ellen Jacobson, Branson, Mo; a brother, Larry Jacobson, Dayton, Texas; and a sister, Jackie Scharff, Olathe.

Dr. Dan Rainbolt conducted the services. Pallbearers were Doyle McQuay, Ronnie McQuay, Garrett McQuay, Mark Stone, Glenn Scharff, Jim Martin and Rex Richey. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name to the Arthritis Foundation.
