Charles Richard Grant, 64, 39875 Plum Creek Road, Osawatomie, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, in Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 11, 1941, in Paola, he was the only child of Delmar Ralph and Julia Margaret Thompson Grant. He grew up south of Beagle, where he lived at the time of his death, and was a 1959 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He was a 1964 graduate of Pittsburg State University.

After completing college, he entered the U.S. Army. His military career lasted 11 years. He became a captain and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Vietnam Honor Medal, along with many other decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations and campaign ribbons. He was medically retired from the Army in 1976.

In the early 1960's he married Donna L. DeBus. They became the parents of two children, Tera and Scott. Their marriage ended in divorce.

He and Vivien Latimer were married Aug. 13, 1969, and they made their home in Osawatomie. They were divorced in 1982.

Mr. Grant was very active in Boy Scouts of America for many years. He had served on Osawatomie USD 367 Board of Education and on the Kansas State School Board of Education.

His memberships included the First Presbyterian Church of Osawatomie and Hanlin-Kelly Post No. 2258 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Osawatomie. He was a former member of Osawatomie Rotary Club and Masons, also in Osawatomie.

In 1985 he and Linda Graves were married and made their home in Osawatomie. They were divorced in 1987.

On April 6, 1991, he and Anita Sanders were married in Osawatomie where they made their home. She preceded him in death Feb. 26, 2003.

Others preceding him in death were his parents and his daughter, Tera Fawn Grant, who died in a vehicle accident March 27, 1992. After her death, he adopted her two children, Carrie and Nicholas.

Survivors include his children, Richard Scott Grant of Salina and Carrie Grant, Nicholas Grant and Brad Grant, all of Osawatomie; and three grandchildren.

Services were Monday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Pallbearers were Curtis Gibson, Stanton Adams, Bob Cook, Tom Speck, Doug Chisam and Joe Weaver. Honorary pallbearers were E.L. Swenson, Galen Critchfield and Melvin Kilbourn. Burial was in Beagle Cemetery with full military honors.
