LARRY DICKEY

CLASS OF 1959 

JANUARY 9, 1940 - DECEMBER 24, 1991

Larry Gene Dickey, 51, Osawatomie, lifelong resident of this area, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1991, at the Humana Hospital of Overland Park.

He was born Jan. 9, 1940 in Paola, the oldest of three children of Carl Jr. and Ethel Josephine Cortner Dickey.

He grew up in Osawatomie and graduated from the Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1959.

Mr. Dickey worked at several different jobs that included dispatching at the Miami County Sheriff's office. He sold AmWay and was employed at the Matney Mobile Home and Locker Room in Osawatomie for a time. In later years he baby-sat not only with his children but with other children.

He was married on Dec. 8, 1972, in Osawatomie to Mary Eileen Proctor. They lived in Onega, Kan., for six months where his wife taught school. They moved to Osawatomie in 1973.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Osawatomie.

His mother and the grandparents preceded him in death.

Those surviving are his wife, Mary Dickey, and two sons, Larry Gene "Bo" Dickey Jr., and Robert William Dickey, all of the home; his father, Carl Dickey Jr. of Osawatomie; a brother Clifford Lynn Dickey of Lenexa; a sister, Phyllis Jo Pitko o Eureka, Kan.; and his grandmother, Edna Dickey of Osawatomie.

Services were at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Curtis Roesch officiating. Music was provided by Hazel Wilhoite, accompanied on the organ by Rosalie Bowker.

Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery under the direction of the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home of Osawatomie. Pallbearers were Stan Ricketts, Steve Ricketts, Jim Cortner, Tom DelaCruz, Mike Lombard and Gary Reed.

Memorials have been established in his name to the Osawatomie Recreation Commission.
