OCTOBER 14, 1940 - MARCH 21, 1984

Mary Kay Madl, 43, of Ottawa, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 21, 1984, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. Mrs. Madl, a former Osawatomie resident, became ill where she worked in Ottawa and was rushed to the medical center by Life Flight.

She was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Osawatomie, the only child of Carl Winford and Ruth Marie Styx Cook. She grew up in Osawatomie and attended the schools there graduating with the Class of 1959. She spent most of her life in Osawatomie and moved to Ottawa 12 years ago.

She was married to Don Richie in 1959 and they became the parents of one daughter. The marriage ended in divorce. She later married Harold Madl and they became the parents of three children.

The marriage also ended in divorce.

Preceding her in death was her father, Carl Cook.

Surviving are her four children, Valerie Farrar of Ottawa; Carl Edward Madl, Gwen Marie Madl and Lynn Loree Madl, all of the home, and her mother, Mrs. Ruth Cook of Osawatomie.

Services for Mrs. Madl were held Saturday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. The Rev. Clarence Davis officiated. The music was provided by the Rev. Mr. Davis and his wife, Candi. They sang "In The Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by Nelle Dollar.

The pallbearers were David Wright, Ronnie Plaisted, Dick Vess, Larry Farrar, Mike Hicks and Bryan Carr. Honorary bearers were Allen Crane, Walter Ray, George Rivera, Frank Toops, Clayton Hartford, Merle Ensle and Verne Ensle.

Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery.

A memorials was established in her name to the American Heart Association.
