VERNON BARTLETT

 

 CLASS OF 1958

Vernon Lee Bartlett, age 75 of Osawatomie Kansas passed peacefully at his home on October 7, 2015, due to complications from leukemia and heart disease.

Vernon was born on March 16, 1940 to Lee Bartlett and Mary (Hightower) Bartlett at the family home.

His childhood was spent on the family farm west of Osawatomie, Kansas, where he learned a strong work ethic that he carried throughout his life. Vernon graduated from Osawatomie High School with the class of 1958.

On December 15, 1961, Vernon was united in marriage to Carol Henness at the United Methodist Church in Osawatomie, Kansas. They settled west of town and were parents of five children.

Vernon and Carol farmed and raised cattle together. He was very proud of the cattle herd they built over the last 49 years. Vernon also enjoyed working with his hands. He built the family home, he made toy boxes for all of his grandchildren, and his daughters always knew if something needed fixed dad would know how to. Vernon enjoyed fishing and numerous other outdoor activities. Vernon was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His children and grandchildren were his pleasure in life. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local 1021 and served on the Miami County Farm Bureau board. Vernon was employed by Delco Remy in Olathe, Kansas, and retired in 1992 after thirty-two years of service.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two older siblings: Charles and Mary and young son Keith Bartlett in 1970.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Carol Henness Bartlett of the home, his four daughters, Lori (Rob) Herron of Carl Junction, Missouri, Julie (Darren) Hibdon of Princeton, Kansas, Brenda (Terry) Young of Osawatomie, Kansas and Linda Fox of Shawnee, Kansas. Eight grandchildren, Andrea (Ty) Jaquess, Kurtis Herron, Liesl Herron, Cade Hibdon, Chad Hibdon, Grace Young, Jaden Fox and Barron Fox and one great granddaughter Kendall Jaquess.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Olathe Medical Center, Hospice of Olathe, and friends and relatives for their support they gave Vernon and family during his illness.
