ROBERT WILLIAM JONES

CLASS OF 1957 

MARCH 25, 1939 - FEBRUARY 8, 1989

Robert William Jones, 49, Salina, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1989, at the Olathe Medical Center.

Known as Bob, he was born in Olmitz, Kan., March 25, 1939, the son of Theodore Martin and Ruby Geniebe Lindren Jones. He grew up and attended the Osawatomie schools and graduated from the Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1957.

From 1957 to 1961 he worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital. He then served in the United States Navy for four years. He began working at the aircraft plant at McPherson and in 1967 he started working at Beech Aircraft in Salina and was a tool crib attendant. He worked there until Dec. 22 when he was forced to quit because of poor health.

He was a member of the Machinists Union. He was a member of the Christian Church of Osawatomie.

His parents preceded him in death.

Surviving are a brother, Ted Jones, Jr. of Osawatomie; two sisters, Mrs. Joyce Bean, Osawatomie, and Miss Cheryl Jones of Springtown, Texas. An aunt, Mrs. Maurine Mullenix of Osawatomie, nine nieces and nephews; 10 great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nephew also survive.

The services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The Rev. George Harrison officiated. Ruth Lombard sang accompanied on the organ by Rosalie Bowker.

The burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Serving as the pallbearers were Doug Jones, Mark Frazee, Brian Frazee, Richard Stadter, Mike Umbarger and Shawn Stuteville. The honorary bearers were Kevin Jones, Dennis Dozier and Paul Swenson. Full military services were held at graveside.

Memorials were established in his name to the Miami County Hospice.
