Clifford Lyle Brown, age 71, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died December 26, 2010 at his home.

Clifford was born October 21, 1939 at Osawatomie, Kansas. He was the older of two sons born to Lyle Franklin and Theda Faye (Cubbison) Brown.

He attended Cresent Hill Country School and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1957. He attended college at Pittsburg State University for one year.

He was united in marriage to Peggy Harlene (Walton) Toney on July 15, 1967 at Kansas City, Kansas. They made their home in Kansas City until moving to Osawatomie in 1973. They became the parents of one son. Peggy preceded him in death on February 25, 2002.

Clifford served his country with the United States Navy.

He worked for a short time at Hallmark Cards in Kansas City before his stint with the Navy. He then worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as an electrician for about 13 years before he began working as an electrician for Kansas City Power and Light at their LaCygne Power Plant location. He retired from KCP&L in 2002 after 29 ½ years of employment with them.

Clifford bought his parents’ home, the home he grew up in, and had been living there since June of 1973. He did a little farming on the side, raised a few cattle.

He attended Cross Point Assembly of God Church in Paola.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Peggy, and his step-daughter Mindy Nibert.

He is survived by his son Rodney Lyle Brown of Osawatomie; his step-son Gary Toney of Kansas City, Kansas; his step-daughter Karla Collins of Osawatomie; his brother Larry Brown of Osawatomie; seven grandchildren Stacey Nibert, T. J. Toney, Rachel Collins, Shelley Nibert, Megan Brown, Erin Brown, and Ashlyn Brown; 4 great grandchildren Cyra Cronister, Gio Cronister, Emma Nibert, and Domani Toney; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 31, 2010 at the Osawatomie Cemetery. Memorials are to the Clifford Brown Memorial Fund.
