Shirley Spears, 60, of Osawatomie, KS passed away Friday, June 23, 2000 at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 27 at the Wilson & Son Funeral Home; burial in Osawatomie Cemetery. Friends may call 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Wilson & Sons Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Shirley Spears Memorial.

Shirley Spears was born August 15, 1939, in Paola, KS to Glenn and Waneta Morris Barnes. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1957. In June of 1972, she married Thurman Spears in Miami, OK. Shirley worked for the Osawatomie State Hospital from 1961 until 1995 until she retired due to health reasons. Shirley was a member of the Osawatomie VFW Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Osawatomie United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Thurman Spears, of the home; a sons Steve Reed and wife, Vickie of Osawatomie; a daughter, Marilyn Hall and husband, Bill of LaCygne, KS; a daughter, Julie Carter and husband, Rusty of Nowata, OK; stepdaughter, Connie Morgan, Louisburg, KS, stepdaughter, Sharon Spears, Lawrence, KS; stepdaughter, Teresa Stiver, Osawatomie; stepdaughter, Paula Spears, Lawrence, KS; stepdaughter, Kim Spears, Monett, MO; stepdaughter, Nancy Spears, Osawatomie; stepson, Chuck Spears, Monett, MO; stepson, Paul Spears, Louisburg, KS; 27 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, W. D. Barnes.
