PAUL WESLEY 'WES' PLAISTED

OCTOBER 26, 1937 - NOVEMBER 9, 2006

Paul Wesley "Wes" Plaisted, age 69, of Osawatomie, died November 9, 2006 at Royal Terrace Nursing Home in Olathe.

Wes was born October 26, 1937 at Garnett, Kansas. He was the son of Roy Waldo and Mildred F. (Nickelson) Plaisted. At the age of two, he moved to Osawatomie with his family. He grew up in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1956.

He served his country with the United States Navy for 20 years. He entered on June 21, 1956 and was honorably discharged on September 29, 1975. Wes said the highlight of his military career was being selected to be assigned to the honor guard on the USS Arizona in Hawaii in 1963. In addition to being a pilot, Wes served as an air traffic controller while in the Navy. He was also selected by the Bureau of Naval Personnel to go to Rota Spain due to his qualifications and expertise in specific radar, top secret crypto clearance and emergency action training.

He was married to Della Jean Montgomery on July 27, 1981 at Lincoln, Illinois. They made their home in Springfield, Illinois. They moved from Springfield to Linn County, Kansas on November 11, 1992. In the year 2000, they moved to Osawatomie.

He worked as a boilermaker for 27 years for Babcox and Wilcox Company. He was a certified high pressure tube welder.

At the age of 17, Wes was called to be a minister. He answered that call at the age of 40. He served as minister for the God's Chapel at Centerville, Kansas.

He was also a member of the Lions Club and had been president of the Miami County Airport Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Roy Robert Plaisted, and a sister Mary Jean Price.

He is survived by his wife Jean of the home; two step-sons Steven Brent Craig of Osawatomie and Mathew Todd Craig of Bevier, Missouri; a step-daughter Nichole Ruth Craig of Moberly, Missouri; two brothers Larry Plaisted of Kansas City, Missouri and Ron Plaisted of Lane, Kansas; two sisters Joann Pritchard and Geraldine Dial both of Paola; other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie with full military honors.
