LARRY IVAN GANOUNG

CLASS OF 1956

NOVEMBER 3, 1937 - APRIL 30, 2007

Larry Ivan Ganoung, 69, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away at his home. He was born November 3, 1937, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Helen Lucile Farris and Noel Ivan Ganoung. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his infant brother, Keith Roland Ganoung.

Larry is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie Ganoung of the home, whom he married September 10, 1960, in Pittsburg, Kansas; three sons, Michael “ Mike” Lee Ganoung and his wife Linda of Tontitown, Arkansas, David Allen Ganoung and his wife Michele of Rogers, Arkansas, Donald “ Donnie” Ray Ganoung and his wife Elizabeth of Farmington, Arkansas; one daughter, Michelle “ Shelley” Renee Smith and her husband Jeff of Bentonville, Arkansas; one sister, Marieta Ann Rogers of Paola, Kansas; and eight grandchildren, Taylor, Jordon, Megan, Libby, Katherine, Caroline, Joshua and Jacob.

In his youth, he was active in his church and Boy Scouts, where he earned his God and Country and the Order of the Arrow awards. After graduating in 1962 from Pittsburg State University and serving in the U. S. Army Reserves, Larry began his career with State Farm Insurance as a claim representative and advanced to become a manager with Western Southern Life Insurance Company of Des Moines, Iowa, where he earned his LUTC and was working on his CLU.

When he decided it was too cold in Iowa, he moved his family to Northwest Arkansas, where he became a Real Estate broker and a co-founder of Allied Realty. He was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Club, a GRI and one of the first CRS members from this area. He helped begin and was involved with many youth programs in Rogers, including the AAU sports, Little League and Babe Ruth. One of his most memorable occasions was when his Allied Realty Basketball Team played the Harlem Wizards and was invited by them to travel to the Far East to play exhibition games. He was also a member of the Bella Vista Tennis Association, Wal-Mart Tennis Team and enjoyed playing table tennis. He was a charter member of the Optimist Club, member of the Lions Club, Stephen Minister of FUMC and an avid Razorback fan.

Larry was a 34-year member of Rogers Arkansas First United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Men.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and an inspiration of a true disciple of Jesus Christ.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 2, 2007, from 5 p. m. until 7 p. m. at Stockdale Funeral Services of Rogers, Arkansas.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, May 3, 2007, at 10: 30 a. m. at First United Methodist Church of Rogers, Arkansas, with Pastor David Bentley officiating. The Honor Guard of Northwest Arkansas will provide military honors.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Jordon Ganoung, Joshua Smith, Dale Cook, Stanton Adams, Mike Brown and Mike Cox.

The family is encouraging people to make a donation in lieu of purchasing flowers.
