JAMES RICHARD DeVORE

James Richard DeVore, 68, Carrollton, Mo., a former Osawatomie resident, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton.

The son of George A. and Bertha May Buckner DeVore, he was born Aug. 23, 1936, in Ottawa. He was a 1954 graduate of Osawatomie High School.

On Oct. 13, 1963, he and Marie I. Couture were married in Osawatomie.

Mr. DeVore served in the U.S. Army from 1959 until 1964 and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kan. In 1968 he entered the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Richards-Gebauer Air Force Base near Kansas City, Mo. He retired from the Kansas National Guard in 1978. During all his tours with the armed services, he worked in food services.

He had also worked for the Department of Defense and had been a volunteer deputy in Cass County.

Mr. DeVore was a member of the Southside Baptist Church.

Those preceding him in death include a son, Paul DeVore.

Surviving are his wife, Marie DeVore of the home; five children, George DeVore of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Melodie Ann DeVore of Siloam Springs, Ark., and James Daniel DeVore, Johnathan Richard DeVore and Jenny Corrine DeVore, all of Carrollton; a brother, Guy DeVore of Sedalia, Mo.; two sisters, Adella Thatcher of Sedalia and Sarah Horton of Goodman, Mo.; and 13 grandchildren.Military graveside services were today (Wednesday) at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Mo.
