STANLEY SLATER

CLASS OF 1953 

SEPTEMBER 4, 1934 - JUNE 7, 2008

Stan Slater, age 73, went to be with our Lord on June 7, 2008. Stan had recently settled in Harlingen, Texas but was a long time resident of Overland Park, Kansas.

He was born in Ottawa, Kansas on September 4th, 1934. He leaves his loving wife, Shirley Beth Slater, after 48 years of marriage. He also leaves a son, Randy (Tricia) Slater of Kansas City Kansas, a daughter, Becky (Wayne) Hoener of Waukee, Iowa, five granddaughters, a grandson, and a brother, Walter Slater of Osawatomie, Kansas.

Stanley attended high school in Osawatomie were he began his service to his country in the Naval Reserves. After high school, he began his active service in the Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following his military service, he attended the University of Kansas.

Stan began working in the insurance industry and was a benefits/insurance consultant. He spent a number of years with Metropolitan Life, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Standard Life and then went on to be a cofounder, and President, of Business Insurance Diversified Services. He was also a member of the National Life Underwriters Association and Registered Health Underwriters Association.

While living in Overland Park, Stan was a Pastmaster at the Masonic Lodge in Lenexa Kansas. He was also a former member of the Jester and Joker units of the Abdallah Shrine Temple in Overland Park.

Stan retired and moved to Harlingen, Texas on a permanent basis in 2007. He enjoyed the company of his wife, his grandchildren, and playing cards with friends and "the boys". Stan will be missed by all those who loved him.

A memorial service will be held at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 W. 75th St., in Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday, June 28th at 1:00 p.m.
