WILLIAM PHILLIP 'BILL' SCHULER

JUNE 29, 1935 - AUGUST 30, 2013

William Phillip “Bill” Schuler age 78, of Edgerton, Kansas, formerly of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Friday, August 30, 2013 at the Villa St. Francis in Olathe, Kansas. Bill died of complications of Alzheimer’s.

Bill was born June 29, 1935 in Osawatomie, Kansas, the third of four children to John Pete and Nellie Marie (Smith) Schuler.

He attended Osawatomie schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School with the class of 1953.

Bill began working at the age of seventeen for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a file clerk in Osawatomie. He then transferred to Wichita, Kansas and then to Kansas City, Missouri where he retired from in the 1980's.

Bill waited until later in life to marry and on November 5, 1994 he married Mary Lynne Flynn, they made their home in Edgerton, Kansas. Bill was very active in the Edgerton community. He helped with the Bank of Knowledge, Frontier Days and Clean up days.

He was baptized in the Baptist Church, was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks, the Elks Lodge #921 of Osawatomie and was in the United States Army Reserve.

Bill had many hobbies which he enjoyed. He liked to build model planes, go fishing, play golf and one of his special things to do was building trellis’ and arbors. He liked to garden in the yard and grow flowers; one of his favorites was roses. People were always complimenting him on his beautiful yard.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Schuler.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lynne of the home, one brother John (Shirley) Schuler of Kansas City, KS, one sister Diane (Bill) Johns of Osawatomie, KS, one step daughter Posey(Tony) Hoffman of Foristell, MO, two step grandchildren: Michael (Ashley) Crist of Overland Park, KS and Nathan Crist of Olathe, KS, two nieces and one nephew.

The family would like to thank all the nurses and aides at the Villa, who took such good care of Bill. They also would like to thank Dr. James Sebghati and Olathe Hospice for their help

CREMATION

FUNERAL SERVICE: 7PM, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5TH AT THE EDDY-BIRCHARD FUNERAL HOME.

VISISTATION TO FOLLOW SERVICE UNTIL 9PM.
