Gene Marcum, 69, Olathe, KS, died Sunday, September 14, 2003, at home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2003, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Burial in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Olathe Medical Center Hospice, 20333 W. 151 St., TDB2 Suite 301, Olathe, KS 66061.

Gene Marcum was born on May 8, 1934 in Hoisington, KS, the son of Luther and Mary Marcum. He was raised in Hoisington until the family moved to Osawatomie in 1950. He graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1953. He married Doris Page on November 30, 1956.

He served in the United States Army. After their marriage they lived in Atascadero, CA, later moved to Osawatomie and then to Olathe where they made their home. Gene worked for Metcalf Ford and later went to work for Missouri Pacific Railroad and then the Union Pacific Railroad. He retired in 1999. He was a member of the Lenexa Christian Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John, Robert and Herbert, his half-brother, LeRoy Holman, and sisters, Angeline Sohm and Ruth Page.

His survivors include his wife, Doris of the home; one son, David of Olathe, KS; three daughters, Debbie Hatfield and husband, Joe of Eldon, MO, Becky Norris and husband, Jim of Paola, KS, Melissa Dice and husband, David of Olathe, KS; his grandchildren, Alicia (Hatfield) Jones and her husband, Jeff, Justin and Elizabeth Hatfield, Michelle and Tiffany Marcum, Jessica and Tabitha Norris, Nicole and Jacob Dice; great-grandchildren, Trevor and Austin Jones. He is also survived by sisters, Louise Lehnning of Great Bend, KS, Kay Mullis of Aztec, AZ, Gladys Voos of Hoisington, KS; one brother, Charles of Osawatomie, KS.
