Yvonne Charlene Tate, 73, of McAlester, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at her residence.

The family will receive visitors this afternoon at 3 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Home.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Indian Baptist Church, 608 W. Tyler in McAlester, with her husband, the Rev. Robert L. Tate officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery under direction of Bishop Funeral Service.

Born July 10, 1935, in Osawatomie, Kan., to Charles and Helen Davis, she was reared in Osawatomie and graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1953.

She was a graduate of Fort Scott Junior College, Fort Scott, Kan. She also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and taught at a country school for a number of years.

Over the years she was a homemaker and worked at other jobs, including Walmart.

On June 2, 1962, she married Robert L. Tate in Osawatomie, Kan., and they had three sons, Daniel, Samuel and John Louie.

Her hobbies were sewing and making greeting cards including sending Valentine cards to the Veteran’s Hospital in Muskogee.

She was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church, where her husband is the pastor and she was the organist.

Survivors include her husband, Robert L. Tate, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Tate and wife, Brenda, of McAlester, Samuel Tate and wife, Nancy, of McAlester, and a grandson, Andrew Tate and wife, Molly, of McAlester.She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Davis; a brother, Roy Davis; a Son, John Louie Tate, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Louie and Marjorie Tate.
