MARY ALICE BARTLETT CRAWFORD

CLASS OF 1952

NOVEMBER 25, 1932 - JANUARY 23, 1986

Mrs. Mary Alice Crawford, 53, Osawatomie, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 1986, at her home.

She was born Nov. 25, 1932, to Jasper Lee and Mary Isabell Hightower Bartlett in Kansas City, Kan. She grew up in the Green Valley area and attended the country school. She attended the Osawatomie High School and graduated with the Class of 1952.

She was united in marriage to Harry Stephen Bulis in Miami, Okla., in 1950. They divorced sometime the following year. She was then married to Clifford S. Castleberry in 1952. They became the parents of two children and that marriage ended in divorce in 1965.

On May 16, 1966 she and Sterling C. Crawford were married in Miami, Okla. He preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1983.

Mrs. Crawford was employed for over 17 years at the Osawatomie State Hospital. She was a licensed mental health technician at the time she had to take disability because of her health.

She was a member of the Green Valley Baptist Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary of Paola, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Osawatomie and the Osawatomie State Hospital Aide Association.

Mrs. Crawford was interested in history of the area and was a charter member of the Friends of the Adair Cabin. She donated the funds to start the charter in memory of Mary Bartlett and Sterling C. Crawford.

Her mother also preceded her in death.

Those surviving are her son, Stephen Castleberry of Rantoul; her daughter, Mrs. Mary Reed, her father, Lee Bartlett, and two brothers, Vernon L. Bartlett and Charles E. Bartlett, all of Osawatomie; and six grandchildren.

The services were at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The Rev. Richard Landess officiated. The burial was in the Green Valley Cemetery. Serving as the pallbearers were Pat Tenpenney, George Crosby, George Jackson, Steve Medlock, Kenneth Hightower and Alvin Hall.

The honorary bearers were Jim Dudley, Paul Serna, Fred Medlock, Frank Davis, Jack Fields, Ben Kennedy, Howard Barnes, Alva Castleberry, Carl Stone, Mervin McDougal, Charles L. Bartlett, Terry R. Bartlett and Glen Bartlett.

A memorial has been established in her name to the Friends of Adair Cabin.
