Otis Snyder, 84, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011, at his home in Weir, Kan. He was born June 18, 1927, to Dolphia Anderson and Zella Margaret Snyder in Osawatomie, Kan. Otis attended Osawatomie High School until he entered the Navy. He served four years in the U.S. Navy in World War II. After his discharge, he returned to complete his high school diploma on the GI bill in 1951. Otis and Harriet Conrad Picht were married Feb. 14, 1990. She survives at the home. Additional survivors include one brother, Kenneth of Osawatomie; three stepchildren, Kristy Beckman of Wichita, Becky Krause of Weir and Phillip Picht of Fort Scott; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Otis was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Cletis, and a brother, Dolphia (Toby).

Otis worked at the railroad for 15 years, General Motors for 10 years and he worked in the plumbing department at Osawatomie State Hospital for 20 years where he retired as the plumbing supervisor in 1989. Otis and Harriet lived at Hidden Valley Lake in Mapleton for 21 years. They moved to Weir in November to have better access to medical facilities for his dialysis and cancer care.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society. His remains will be cremated and a private service will be held in the spring.
