Thelma Irene Whetstone, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015, at Homestead Health & Rehabilitation Center in Garden City.

She was born July 17, 1932, in Osawatomie, to Ivan and Zelma Neuer Elkinton. She graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1950.

On Sept. 21, 1952, she married Bill M. Whetstone in Osawatomie. They lived in San Diego from 1953 to 1961 and then moved to Beagle and then to Meade. In 1966, they moved to Kalvesta, where in 1967 she started driving a school bus for Garden City USD 457, which she did for more than 30 years. They moved to Garden City in 1976. He died April 12, 1998. She also was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sons, Phil and wife Joy Whetstone of Nardin, Okla., and Gary Whetstone of Garden City; a sister, Zella Berry of Garden City; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17, at Church Of The Nazarene in Garden City. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
