Marion James Vest age 88 of Osawatomie, KS died October 6, 2018 at Life Care Center of Osawatomie.
Marion was born September 11, 1930 in Osawatomie, KS. He was the third of four children born to Edwin Arthur and Faye Easter (Flint) Vest. Marion had a twin sister, Mary that he was a few minutes older than and he never let her forget that he was older. He attended school in Osawatomie. He graduated with the Osawatomie High School class of 1948.
After high school, Marion married Juanita Mae Phifer on December 3, 1948 in Osawatomie. Together the couple had two sons Ronald and James. They made their home in Miami County. In 1950, Marion went to work at Philips Petroleum. He started out at a small station off of Old Kansas City Highway. Then he transferred to the main station south of Paola. Where he finished out his 35 year career. Marion retired in 1985.
Marion was a brilliant carpenter. He could build just about anything he put his mind to. Marion remolded a home he and Juanita bought in the early 60’s. He crafted various things over the years for his family and friends. These things include, jewelry boxes, clocks, nativity scenes, beds and other furniture. Marion also made thousands of wooden crosses that he took to church and handed out. He was a member of the Well Wesleyan Church in Osawatomie.
He was preceded in death by his wife Juanita, his parents, brother Edwin Vest Jr. and twin sister Mary Borders.
Survivors include sons Ronald (Kay) Vest of Brier, WA and James (Roberta) Vest of Osawatomie, KS. Sister Merle Jean Young of Osawatomie, KS. Grand children Aaron (Amber) Vest, Stephanie (Robert) John, and Faye Bauer. Six Great Grandchildren Shylen, Adrianna, Chole, Dylan, Sydney and Taylor. Along with other family and friends.
