CLASS OF 1939 DECEMBER 16, 1920 - DECEMBER 21, 1987 John Robert Mullins, 67, Osawatomie, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1987, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, MO. The son of Chester Lovell and Margaret Alma Reynolds Mullins, he was born at Osawatomie, Dec. 16, 1920. He grew up in Osawatomie and graduated from the Osawatomie High School with the Class of 1939. He was married to Norma Jean Nelson in 1945. They became the parents of two sons and a daughter. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1968. Dec. 2, 1969, he was married to Marilyn Boyd Kennedy in LaPorte, Texas. They returned to Osawatomie to 1973 after his retirement. Mr. Mullins was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a quality assurance engineer for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration from 1962 to 1973. Earlier he was a quality assurance engineer for the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Osawatomie Elks Lodge and the American Legion and the Plum Creek Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother. The survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marilyn Mullins of the home; three sons, Lawrence Robert Mullins of Colorado Springs, Colo., Richard L. Mullins of West Germany, and John Mullins of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Marcia McElligott of Seabrook, Texas, and Miss Jeanna Mullins of the home; two stepsons, Curtis Kennedy of Lawrence, and Colin Kennedy of Houston, Texas; a brother, Richard Mullins of Denver, Colo.; and six grandchildren. The services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. The Rev. Ted Hunter officiated. The music was provided by Mrs. Nelle Dollar, organist, and Mrs. Nancye Snyder, soloist. The songs were "Amazing Grace" and "God Be With You." Military and Elk services were at the chapel. Cremation after the service. Burial of ashes was at 11 a.m. today, Monday, at the Osawatomie Cemetery.
