AUGUST 13, 1919 - MARCH 27, 2005 Henry Glenn Wilson, 85, Talihina, Okla., a native of Osawatomie, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, in Talihina of pneumonia. He was born August 13, 1919 in Osawatomie, the son of William James Edward and Mary Angeline Cook Wilson. He grew up in Osawatomie and was a 1938 graduate of Osawatomie High School. He was active in Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He later served as scoutmaster. In 1941, at the age of 22, he was working on a Merchant Marine vessel in Honolulu, Hawaii. The vessel departed Honolulu on Dec. 6, just one day prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. His ship carried no ammunition so was ordered to continue on to New Orleans, La., under blackout. On Jan 4, 1942, he and Ted Hay, his sister's finance, went to Kansas City, Kan., to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Corps. During a long military career, Mr. Wilson served in World War II, was stationed in Tripoli in 1959-1960 with Unit 513 and served in the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he and his wife, Ocie Sanderson Wilson, settled in Carson City, Nev., where he worked as a corrections officer for the Nevada State Prison for several years. They later moved to Talihina. Those preceding him in death included his wife; a brother, William S. Wilson, and a sister, Ilene V. Wright. Survivors include his sisters, Wilma L. Hay of Fallbrook, Calif., and Jeanne A. Kenagy of Guthrie, Okla. |
