CLASS OF 1938 JUNE 20, 1919 - NOVEMBER 12, 2011 Berma Opal Eichorn, age 92, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie, Ks. Opal was born June 20, 1919 in rural Osawatomie, Ks. She was the youngest of three children born to Elmer Orlan and Grace (Griffith) Vaughn. She attended Stockwell Country Schools and graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1938. Opal was united in marriage to Raymond Arthur Eichorn at Holton, Kansas on January 22, 1939 and made their home in Osawatomie, Ks. They became the parents of five children. She worked for a Variety Store, the Graphic for one winter, Pennys for a few months, raised the family, Judge Protem with Judge Brooks Hinkle for a few years in the early 60s and then with United Appraisal in Kansas City, Ks. for one year in the mid 60s. She was an early volunteer of the Osawatomie History Museum and served on the board of directors. She was a member of the Plum Creek United Methodist Church, Eastern Star for 40 years and a member of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2002; her parents; one son, Lynn Eichorn; two brothers, Howard Vaughn and Clarence Vaughn. She is survived by three sons, Gary Eichorn of Emporia, Ks, Steven Eichorn of Osawatomie, Ks, Stanley Eichorn of rural Fontana, Ks; one daughter Barbara Holmes of Los Gatos, Ca.; 12 Grandchildren; 10 great Grandchildren and 3 step-great Grandchildren. Funeral services are 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 18th, 2011 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, followed by burial in the Osawatomie Cemetery, Osawatomie, Ks. Visitation 6 - 8pm Thursday November 17, 2011. Memorials are to Plum Creek United Methodist Church. |
