EVERETT FRANCIS JOHNSON

MARCH 30, 1920 - JULY 14, 2004

Everett Francis Johnson of Iowa City, Iowa, died July 14, 2004 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Born March 30, 1920 in Osawatomie, Kansas, he was 84. He was the son of George and Blanche Cassida Johnson. Everett graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1938 and served his country in the United States Navy in WW II. On July 4, 1941 he married Helen G. Bohon in Kansas City, MO. Everett worked for the Rock Island Railroad as a master mechanic. He retired in 1979 and moved to Iowa City, Iowa in 1996. He was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City, Zuhrah Shrine and Osawatomie Masonic Lodge #0024. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and woodworking. He loved to tell a good story and was known for his sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Iowa City, Iowa; sons, James Johnson and wife Mary, of St. Louis Park, Minn., David Johnson and wife, Marcia, of Johnston, Iowa; daughter Bette Strug and husband Robert of Coralville, Iowa; grandchildren Michael Johnson and wife, Patti, Stephen Johnson, David Johnson and wife, Cheryl, and Lauren Strug; and three great-grandchildren, Paige, Lance and Annabelle Johnson.

Funeral services were held July 17 at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, Iowa. Interment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
