Vearl LaVern Cox, age 94, of DeSoto, Kansas, died Tuesday, May 3, 2012 at the Hillside Village in DeSoto, Ks.

Vearl was born March 25, 1918 in Lynn County, Kansas to Percy Cox and Ethel (Poole) Cox. He was the fourth of six children.

He graduated from Osawatomie High School in the class of 1938. He worked for the Hercules Powder Plant in DeSoto, Ks. during WWII. He then went to work for Du Pont in 1958 in their cellophane plant in Tecumseh, Ks. He retired in 1980.

Vearl was married on November 10, 1940 in Paola, Ks. to Dorothy Helen Rodgers and became the parents of three children. They lived in Marysville and Abilene before moving to Osawatomie in 1948. In 1951, they moved to De Soto and lived there until moving to Topeka in 1958. They left Topeka for Littleton, Colo., in 1980 and had lived in Lawrence since 1983.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one infant daughter, Judith Kay Cox; one son, Donald Cox; two brothers, Ray and Everett Cox; two sisters, Audrey and Nettie Clearwater.

He is survived by a son, Larry Cox (Mary) of Olathe, Ks; two grandsons, Mark Cox (Lori) of Pace, Fl. and Bryan Cox (Chris) of Castle Rock, Co; four great Grandsons, Keith and Brett Cox of Castle Rock, Co. and Kyle and Griffin Cox of Pace, Fl; one brother, Percy Cox of Littleton, Co; and many Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at 10am, Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, 203 Main Street, Osawatomie, Ks. Burial in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Visitation from 6-8pm, Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Funeral Home.
